About Mark:

I was born in England and, after training and working in psychotherapy for a number of years in the UK; notably with the the Richmond Fellowship, I moved to the United States in 1991.

I graduated from
San Francisco State University in 1997 with a Master's degree in Counseling.

I am licensed as a psychotherapist by the
California Board of Behavioral Sciences and hold a National Certified Counselor certificate from the National Board for Certified Counselors.

I am a clinical member of the
California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) and was elected Director-at-large 2000/02 (with responsibility for community services) for the Marin County branch of CAMFT.

I have a wide variety of therapeutic experience working with adults and children. I worked for Eastfield Ming Quong for 3 years in a school based day treatment program for children in first through fifth grade, providing therapeutic services for the students and their parents.

I trained and worked with adults and children facing substance abuse issues for Pyramid Alternatives in Pacifica, California.

I worked for 2 years for Erikson School, a non-public school in San Francisco for seriously emotionally disturbed teens.

Between 1996 and 2003 I worked as a member of Clinical staff for the
Family Service Agency of Marin providing individual, family and group services for children, teens and adults on an outpatient basis.

Between 2000 and 2003 I worked as a member of the mental health team at the
Jeannette Prandi Children's Center, a joint project involving the Family Service agency of Marin and the Marin County District Attorney's Office. Additionally I was the project coordinator for the new Parent Child Interaction Therapy program at FSA.

I use a wide variety of therapeutic techniques, dependent upon the needs and circumstances of my clients, to help every person to reach their full potential.

In addition to my clinical work, I also occasionally teach other Psychotherapists and Psychotherapists in training at local institutes and universities including Sonoma State University, where I am a member of adjunct faculty in the Department of Counseling.

What can Mark do for me?

I work in a variety of formats with clients. When working with children, I use play therapy techniques, expressive artistic methods and frequent meetings with parents and teachers to help a child increase self-esteem and to improve behavior and social skills at home and school. This is supplemented with specific parenting skills training. The aim of my work is to help each child be more successful and form more rewarding and satisfying relationships.

With teens, adults and couples, I meet weekly to talk about difficulties at work, in relationships and in life, to help clients reach their full potential. For further details about my work please visit the "What is Therapy?" page.
